One of the 3 main attractions at kylemore abbey  is the gothic church .(which is actually a mini cathedral based on Norwich and Bristol cathedrals) It  was built in 1784 as a memorial to Mrs Margaret Henry who died after a short illness she contracted while traveling in Egypt .The mother of nine was only 45 years old. The exterior is a mix of cut and quarried lime stoan with carvings of angelic creatures jutting out from the eves .

Inside the church there is a definite feeling as the sunlight smashes thru the stained glass windows and bounces off the light yellow  itialian sandstone.  The delicately shaped carvings of  flowers and birds of beauty are illuminated back to life. Marbel  from the 4 provinces   Is combined alongside the itialian sandstone. Every element of this memorial has a message and is there for a reason . It’s a fine example of neo got his architecture and a fine memorial that’s well worth a visit .
