You will always remember a daytrip to Inishbofin Island which is on the Wild Atlantic Way. First of all, the Ferry is so much fun, make sure that you do not get seasick and do not stand in the front part of the Ferry since you will get totally wet. But the waves make this trip an absolute fun trip, especially for children and for everyone who is still a child in his heart.

The island itself is a beautiful little treasure. Untouched nature, white beaches, little roads for walking or cycling. Use the old (almost not used by cars anymore) charming narrow roads and paths to discover the island. Make sure that you have a coffee break in one of the little islands cafes (and a good sandwich or a scone, I can recommend The Galley Coffee Shop) and that you buy one of the self-photographed postcards in the little gift shop in the harbor (includes a little museum, too).

Inishbofin is still a secret tip amongst travellers and greets you at its entrance with a white lightfire and an old castle. On the island itself you find charming remainders of stone houses, old boats, an old graveyard. Inishbofin is also perfect to watch birds, to make sailing trips and to go fishing. A must for Connemara lovers!

How long does it take? The whole day, you should take the first ferry at 11.30 to the island and the last ferry back at about 5. Then you can discover most parts of the island by walking. If you want to see the whole island we recommend renting a bike upon your arrival at the harbor.
