On a sunny day in Connemara it’s a delight to cruise around Connemara stoping off at various cool spots savouring the best we have to offer.

It also works really well on a bad day . For the last 5 weeks we have had fairly  mixed weather so I’ve been recommending driving and taking advantage of the dry spells throughout the day. Our guests have been arriving back with rave reviews of their proper adventure out and about in Connemara.

 Drive 1; Roundstone

Start at the lodge and follow the wild Atlantic way south to cleggan. (If your looking for really fresh fish or crabmeat ask for Johnny king ,he the man!! ) continue past cleggan and take a right after 3 km this takes you on a loop around a lake where you will find storm battered rocky beaches and the guy who sells the lobsters. Return to the n59 and go right which is the start of the sky road .

Follow this to clifden and continue south to ballyconneely ( keoghs  pub) stay to the left and continue to the fishing village of roundstone.

Just before you get to the village you will see a sign for dogs bay beach , it’s great for a short walk to build an appetite for o dowds bar which is the perfect spot for lunch.

Continue through roundstone and north to the n59 and then down the inagh valley with the 12 bens mountain range on the left and the maamturks  on the right. Then on to kylemore abbey to experience the splendid estate which is 4 km from the coze relaxed environment at the Lodge .big Connemara day out!!
